Phonics:

At Kingsnorth, we use the programme Read, Write, Inc to teach phonics. The children are taught in small groups according to their phonic knowledge, this will mean that we can work on the next steps specific to your child.  The children will be introduced to a sound a day and will have opportunities to practise taught sounds throughout the day.  To be on track at the end of this term, your child needs to be able to read 4 sound words, including those with set 1 digraphs, independently.   Please continue to support your child by reading their book daily with them.

This term we will be ensuring the children know numberbonds to 10 fluently, and are able to write digits correctly. The children will continue to add and subtract numbers to 20 and understand their composition. We will also be working on counting patterns, odd and even numbers and number doubles. Children will be learning to use a Rekenreks and using it to subitise numbers.

 

Please help your child by testing them on their numberbonds using the STEM sentence ‘10 is made of 6 and…’

P.E  

This term, our theme in PE is ‘Down on the farm’ and we are developing overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their P.E. kit on their class P.E. day.

Jigsaw

Jigsaw is the PSHE programme we use in school. In PSHE, the children will be learning about body parts and about how their ability to do things has changed since they were born.  We will be discussing milestones and growth, including transition to Year 1.

RE

This term, in RE, the children will be learning about religious stories and different places of worship.  Children will be looking at Sikh, Hindu and Islamic symbols and what they represent.

   How can you help your child at home?

• Talking about your day. What did you do first? What did you do in PE? What did you have for lunch? What was your favourite/best part of the day?
• Play games to encourage turn taking.
• Continue to read stories to your child as well as listening to them read daily. 
• Encourage your child to be independent with: getting dressed, zipping their coat up, putting on hats, gloves, scarves and using a knife and fork, wiping their nose. 
• Look for numbers in the environment "what number can you see on that door?" "How many trees can you see?".
• Practise counting forwards (1-10) and backwards (10-1). Start on different numbers. Count beyond 10.
• Counting objects both in a straight line and in a random order. 
• Talking about the days of the week - what day is it today? What day was yesterday/tomorrow? 
• Practise Nursery Rhymes.
• Finding one more or one less for a given number to 10.
• Practise number bonds to 5 (5+0, 4+1, 3+2, 2+3, 1+4 0+5).
• Practise letter formation.
• Use the free White Rose app to practise subitising.

Staying healthy

• Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
• Always wash your hands when you get home or into work/school
• Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
• Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
• Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
