The National Curriculum and Assessment

Explaining Assessments and the National Curriculum

At Kingsnorth we follow the National Curriculum, and children’s progress is measured against new National Curriculum expectations. Assessment is made through formal testing and on going teacher's formative assessment.

National statutory testing takes place at the end of Year 1 (Phonics Screener), Key Stage 1 (age 7) and Key Stage 2 (age 11).
At the end of Year R, children are measured against the Early Years Profile and a Good Level of Development (GLD).

Children’s attainment and progress are reported to parents through mid year and end of year reports.

Early in September each year, we hold an information session for parents to share further details of the National Curriculum and it's expectations and about any changes to assessment which we have made at Kingsnorth.

Below is much of the information that was shared during the session. More sessions will follow in September for those who couldn't make this session.
